Refrigerated Centrifuge

A refrigerated centrifuge is a specialized laboratory instrument designed to separate components of a mixture based on density while maintaining a precise, controlled low temperature.

By combining high-speed rotation with a built-in cooling system—typically ranging from -20°C to 40°C—it counteracts the heat generated by friction during spinning. This cooling mechanism is critical for preserving the structural integrity of heat-sensitive biological materials, such as enzymes, DNA, RNA, proteins, and blood components, preventing them from degrading or denaturing.

Key Specifications & Features

  • Temperature Range: Commonly operates between -10°C / -20°C and +40°C with highly stable climate control.
  • Speed Profiles: Ranges from low-speed benchtop units (up to 6,000 RPM) to ultra-high-speed configurations exceeding 25,000+ RPM depending on the application.
  • Rotor Versatility: Supports interchangeable fixed-angle, swinging-bucket, or vertical rotors to accommodate everything from micro-tubes to high-capacity blood bags.
  • Safety & Control: Equipped with digital user interfaces, programmable run profiles, automatic imbalance detection, and motorized lid-locking systems.

Common Applications

  • Molecular Biology: Isolate and extract fragile nucleic acids (DNA/RNA).
  • Clinical Diagnostics: Separate blood plasma, serum, and cellular components for medical testing.
  • Biochemistry & Pharma: Purify proteins, harvest cell cultures, and process delicate vaccine materials.
