Vertical Electrophoresis System

A Vertical Electrophoresis System is a laboratory apparatus used to separate and analyze proteins, nucleic acids, or amino acids by passing an electrical current through a vertically oriented polyacrylamide gel (PAGE).

Key Features

  • Vertical Orientation: Holds glass plate gel sandwiches vertically in a buffer tank, which is required because polyacrylamide gels need air-exclusion to polymerize properly.
  • Discontinuous Buffers: Uses separate upper and lower buffer chambers to create sharp protein band resolutions (such as in SDS-PAGE).
  • Leak-Proof Casting: Includes integrated gel casting stands, clamping brackets, and rubber/silicon gaskets to prevent liquid leakage during gel setting.
  • Multi-Gel Capability: Can typically run between 1 to 4 gels simultaneously depending on the model’s capacity and throughput needs.
  • Blotting Compatibility: Many units convert easily into wet-transfer modules for Western blotting applications.
