Horizontal Electrophoresis System

A horizontal electrophoresis system is a laboratory instrument used to separate and analyze nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) based on size using agarose gel submerged in a buffer solution.

Core Components

  • Buffer Tank: Holds the gel and conductive running buffer.
  • Gel Casting Tray & Tray/Dam: Used to cast and hold the agarose gel.
  • Combs: Form sample wells in the gel for loading.
  • Electrodes (Platinum Wires): Apply an electrical current across the gel via positive and negative leads.
  • Safety Lid & Power Supply: Connects to an external or integrated power box to drive migration.

Key Specifications & Features

  • Primary Application: DNA/RNA fragment isolation, PCR check, and genetic analysis.
  • Gel Sizes: Varies from small mini-gels (e.g., 7×7 cm or 60×60 mm) to larger format trays depending on throughput.
  • Material: Typically durable, chemical-resistant molded acrylic or polycarbonate with transparent lids for real-time monitoring
