Microcentrifuge

A microcentrifuge is a compact, high-speed laboratory instrument designed to separate liquid samples of small volumes, typically ranging from 0.2 mL to 2.0 mL. By rotating samples at rapid speeds—often up to 15,000 RPM or higher—the device utilizes relative centrifugal force (RCF) to isolate components based on their size and density. It is an indispensable benchmarking tool for molecular biology, clinical diagnostics, and biochemistry workflows.

Key Features & Capabilities

  • High-Speed Separation: Rapidly pellets nucleic acids, proteins, or cellular debris by spinning down samples within minutes.
  • Compact Footprint: Engineered with a small benchtop profile and quiet operations, making it ideal for crowded or shared workspaces.
  • Versatile Configurations: Available in standard ventilated models, mini “palm” designs for quick spin-downs, and refrigerated units that protect temperature-sensitive samples from heat degradation.
  • Smart Safety Protocols: Features advanced safety measures, including electronic lid locks, imbalance detection systems, and aerosol-tight containment.

Primary Applications

  • Genomics & Proteomics: Essential for the isolation, purification, and extraction of DNA and RNA from complex cell matrices.
  • Clinical Assays: Used for blood sample preparation, microfiltration, plasma separation, and diagnostic pathogen detection.
  • Biomedical Research: Facilitates protein sedimentation, enzyme purification, and small-scale compound separation in pharmaceutical discovery.
